About

The first rector of St. John’s, a strong opponent of slavery, planned and built this multiracial parish in 1826, while slavery continued to be the law of the state of New York.

We remain a multiracial community, welcoming all people and rejoicing in our diversity of age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and cultural background, as we join the wider church in seeking to restore all people to unity with God and each other through Christ.
