Hello, we are Phil and Susan Hurd. Together with our son Charles, our daughter Megan, and the wonderful staff here at Hurds Family Farm, we want you to know how fortunate we consider ourselves to have so many family and friends who have been a very important part of the Hurds Family Farm team over the past 20 years!

Now, let us share a little bit about us. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in this 7th generation family farm! “Apples have been a part of my family history for a long time. Its hard for me to imagine that this family farm started out with a few acres of land and a sawmill. The Hudson River’s temperate climate, rich soils and the surrounding hills created the perfect setting for the valley that became famous for its apples,” shares Phil.

We married in 1977, and soon thereafter two new apples were added to the family tree. Our son Charles has come on board after majoring in horticulture in college, adding his energy and ideas to the mix. Our daughter Megan is a teacher, and lends her hand and artistic talents. Charles’s daughter, Jurni Abigail (not pictured), is the newest “apple of our eye,” and the 7th generation!

During a brainstorming session in 1994, we decided to take a step out and open the historic Dutch Barn on some property along the well traveled Route 32, 5 miles south of New Paltz, for weekend festivals–just to see if people would come. And the rest, as they say, is history!

We thank you for coming, for being a part of that history, and we look forward to many more fun-filled years to come!
